iQ Reader Setup and Use with RQmobile
Purpose: This guide explains how to pair an iQ Reader with RQmobile and process payments and refunds.
Before you begin
Important: A passcode must be configured on the iPad before using the iQ Reader. The iQ Reader uses the iOS Keychain as part of its security functionality.
- RQmobile: Version 2.129.2 or higher
- iPad:
- iPad 6th Generation or newer
- iPad Air 3rd Generation or newer
- iPad mini 5th Generation or newer
- iPadOS: Version 17 or higher
- Bluetooth: Must be turned on
- iPad Passcode: Must be enabled
Step 1 — Pair the iQ Reader
```
- On the iPad, verify that Bluetooth is turned on.
- Log in to RQmobile.
-
Navigate to:
Settings > Card Reader -
iQ Reader - Select Pair device.
-
RQmobile will display the currently connected card readers.
If no reader has previously been paired, you will see a message indicating that no reader is paired yet.
Select Pair reader or Pair a new reader. -
When iPadOS asks:
Allow "RQmobile" to find Bluetooth devices?
Select Allow. -
Choose one of the available methods to identify your iQ Reader.
Option 1 — Select from Nearby Readers
- Select Nearby readers.
- A list of readers within Bluetooth range will appear. Readers are generally sorted by proximity, with the closest reader shown first.
- Locate the reader using its serial number.
- Compare the serial number displayed in RQmobile with the serial number printed on the back of the iQ Reader.
- Select the correct reader.
OR
Option 2 — Scan the Reader Barcode
- Select Scan barcode.
- If prompted, allow RQmobile to access the iPad camera.
- Locate the barcode on the back of the iQ Reader.
- Point the iPad camera at the barcode to scan it.
- When the Bluetooth pairing dialog appears, select Pair.
- If the iPad asks you to verify a pairing code, you can disregard the code verification. The iQ Reader does not have a display for showing a pairing code.
- On the side of the iQ Reader, press the power button twice.
- When RQmobile displays Pairing successful, select Continue.
After pairing: RQmobile and the iQ Reader will automatically connect when needed. If the devices are inactive for a period of time, they may disconnect from Bluetooth, but they remain paired. Starting a payment should automatically reconnect RQmobile to the most recently paired reader.
First transaction: The first transaction after pairing the iQ Reader may time out while the reader initializes. If this occurs, retry the transaction.
```
