At times, we will deliver new computers directly from Dell to your location. Follow this guide to complete the initial setup and install the Action1 program so that your IT support team can complete the full workstation setup. Contact support@gonorthstar.group with any questions or challenges.
Internal use only: This article contains setup credentials. Restrict it to the appropriate North Star Wireless user segment and do not share it publicly.
Use these instructions when completing the initial setup of a North Star Wireless Dell computer running Windows 11 Pro. Select each step to expand it.
Before you begin: Confirm the computer is running Windows 11 Pro. The Set up for work or school and Domain join instead choices may not appear on Windows 11 Home.
Step 1: Start the Dell and follow the first prompts
Turn on the Dell computer and follow the Windows 11 setup prompts.
- Choose the correct country or region.
- Confirm the keyboard layout.
- Select Skip when asked to add a second keyboard layout, unless another layout is required.
Step 2: Connect to North Star Wi-Fi
On the Let's connect you to a network screen:
- Select North Star Wi-Fi.
- Select Connect.
- Enter the password exactly as shown: Humid1-City-Creatable-Collide-Bless
- Select Next.
Step 3: Name the device using the Dell Service Tag
On the Let's name your device screen, enter the Dell Service Tag and select Next. Windows may restart before setup continues.
Use the Service Tag only. It is seven characters next to "ST:" on the Dell label. Do not use the Express Service Code, store name, or employee name.
Do not select Skip for now.
Step 4: Choose Set up for work or school
On the How would you like to set up this device? screen:
- Select the lower tile: Set up for work or school.
- Select Next.
Do not choose Set up for personal use.
Step 5: Select Sign-in options
On the Microsoft work or school sign-in screen:
- Leave the email address field blank.
- Select Sign-in options. Some Windows 11 versions may display Other sign-in options.
Do not enter an email address.
Step 6: Choose Domain join instead
Select Domain join instead.
The wording is confusing: this choice does not require you to enter a domain. It opens the local Windows account setup.
Required sequence: Set up for work or school > Sign-in options > Domain join instead
Step 7: Create the NSWAdmin local administrator
- On Who's going to use this device?, enter NSWAdmin and select Next.
- Enter the password 2026 and select Next.
- Enter 2026 again when asked to confirm the password.
Use exactly: Username NSWAdmin | Password 2026
Step 8: Finish Windows setup
- If Windows asks security questions, choose three questions and enter all answers as northstar
- Continue through the privacy settings until the Windows desktop appears.
Step 9: Download and install Action1
- At the Windows desktop, open Microsoft Edge.
- Select the address bar and type tinyurl.com/nsw-action-one.
- Press Enter. The North Star Action1 installer will download.
- Open agent(My_Organization).msi from Edge Downloads.
- If User Account Control asks whether to allow the app to make changes, select Yes.
The installer may close without a confirmation screen. Leave the computer powered on, signed in, and connected to North Star Wi-Fi for at least 15 minutes.
Step 10: Stop here
Do not install other applications or add a personal Microsoft account.
North Star IT will use Action1 to complete the remaining setup remotely.
