Port Date: Tuesday, September 15, 2026
⚠ DO NOT REMOVE THE CURRENT PHONE SYSTEM YET
Keep the Mako 6500, Grandstream base and existing cordless phones connected until the store’s telephone number is working on the new Yealink phones and you have successfully completed both an inbound and outbound test call.
Phone Equipment Your Store May Have
Current phone system:
- Mako 6500 router
- Grandstream base station
- Grandstream cordless phones
New phone system:
- Yealink W73P system: W70B base with W73H handset
- Some stores: W60B base with W53H handsets
Before the Port: Set Up the New Phones
Complete these steps immediately so the new phones are powered, connected, and charged before the port.
1. Connect Power to the Base
- Locate the Yealink W70B or W60B base.
- Connect the supplied power adapter to the base.
- Plug the adapter into a working power outlet.
- Confirm that the base powers on.
2. Connect the Base to the Internet
- Connect one end of an Ethernet/network cable to the LAN port on the Yealink base.
- Connect the other end to an available port on the store’s network switch.
- Confirm that the cable is secure on both ends.
Important
Do not unplug the Mako or Grandstream equipment to connect the Yealink base. Both systems must remain connected during the transition. Contact support if no network-switch port is available.
3. Charge Every Handset
- Connect each handset charging cradle to power.
- Place each W73H or W53H handset into its charging cradle.
- Confirm that the handset turns on and shows that it is charging.
- Leave the handsets charging whenever practical before the port.
Register a Handset Only If Needed
The handsets should already be registered. No additional action is needed when a handset displays its normal telephone screen and appears connected.
Follow these steps only if the handset displays Unregistered, No Base or Searching:
- Locate the registration or paging button on the front of the Yealink base.
- Press and hold the button until the registration light begins flashing.
- On the handset, press the Register soft key if it appears.
- If Register is not shown, navigate to:
OK/Menu > Settings > Registration > Register Handset - Select an available base and follow the handset prompts.
- Repeat these steps for each handset that is not registered.
Do not factory-reset the phone equipment.
If the handset requests a PIN, will not register or continues showing No Base, leave the equipment connected and contact North Star Wireless support.
After the Port: Test the New Phones
The store’s existing telephone number will move to the new Yealink system on September 15. The exact completion time may vary.
1. Check the Base
After the base starts and the handsets are registered, verify that the base has three green status lights:
- Power
- Network
- Phone or handset registration
If all three lights are not green, do not remove the current phone equipment.
2. Make an Outbound Test Call
- Use a new Yealink handset to call a cell phone or another known working number.
- Confirm that the call connects.
- Confirm that both people can hear each other.
- When possible, confirm that the correct store number appears as Caller ID.
3. Receive an Inbound Test Call
- Use a cell phone or another outside telephone to call the store’s normal number.
- Confirm that the new Yealink handsets ring.
- Answer the call and confirm that audio works in both directions.
The new system passes when all five items are confirmed:
- Three green lights on the base
- Handsets registered
- Outbound call works
- Inbound call works using the store’s normal number
- Clear two-way audio
Remove and Return the Current Phone System
Complete this section only after the new Yealink system passes every test.
- Disconnect the Mako 6500 router.
- Disconnect the Grandstream base and cordless phones.
- Collect all related power adapters and network cables.
- Keep all old phone equipment together.
- Place everything into the packaging material provided to your store.
- Attach the supplied return label.
- Follow the provided return-shipping instructions.
Be careful when disconnecting equipment.
Do not unplug the store’s primary network equipment, computers, payment terminals, printers or other unrelated devices.
If the New Phones Do Not Work
Leave both phone systems connected and check the following:
- Is the Yealink base powered on?
- Is the network cable securely connected to the base and network switch?
- Are all three base lights green?
- Does each handset show that it is registered?
- Can the Yealink phone make an outbound call?
- Does the Yealink phone ring when the store’s normal number is called?
- Can both callers hear each other?
If any test fails, do not package or return the current phone equipment.
Leave both systems powered and connected, then contact North Star Wireless IT at support@gonorthstar.group.
